Exploring Nature with Children

One of the most appealing aspects of a Charlotte Mason education for me is the seamless interplay between art and science that is possible with nature study.  Nothing compares to tromping through the woods in all weathers to track the first crocus.  Alright, we usually just walk around our neighborhood...and only when it's not too wet!  But we still keep our Calendar of Firsts, and it still counts … [Read more...] about Exploring Nature with Children

Our Favorite Homeschool Art Resources

I have a confession to make. I am not a craft-loving, messy project mom. So when I hear the words 'art project' I cringe just a little. But my daughter absolutely loves doing art projects (sometimes the messier the better)! I realized that I needed to give her time to be creative so I make sure to schedule time for her to explore different art mediums and, with time, I've learned to embrace … [Read more...] about Our Favorite Homeschool Art Resources

Art C by ABeka – My Review

Are you looking for a complete art program for your children? In our homeschool, art was always a big part of our days. We often did our own projects, using ideas from our curriculum (Oak Meadow) or finding things to do on the web. But as my daughter grew, she wanted a more structured art program, and we found this helpful resource for our art and crafts projects - Art C by ABeka Books. A Beka … [Read more...] about Art C by ABeka – My Review

A.C.E. Word Building

We have been using Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) in our homeschool for about three years with all the children (except the twins who are too young). Although I was skeptical at first, we have great success using the program. You may read my Review of ACE English which details my thoughts about the program. Several years ago when I first saw ACE I thought it was too simple and that it … [Read more...] about A.C.E. Word Building

Bookroo: Subscriptions to Inspire Young Readers

The dark comes early these days, and the temperatures stay cool.  That makes winter the perfect time for stories!  Recently, our family had the opportunity to try out Bookroo--a subscription book service. Every month a handsomely wrapped package arrives filled with your choice of board books or picture books.  What a fun morning we had receiving our package from the letter carrier, then tearing … [Read more...] about Bookroo: Subscriptions to Inspire Young Readers

Virtual Field Trips

My family is always looking for fun field trips to supplement all of the wonderful products we have found here at The Curriculum Choice. Living in a large metropolis, we are blessed to have many historical sites and factories that offer educational and fun field trips to homeschooling families. These opportunities are great, and we take advantage of them often. However, sometimes our studies take … [Read more...] about Virtual Field Trips

World Geography with North Star Geography

Upper lever grades can be both difficult to teach and difficult to find quality, comprehensive resources to teach with. We have had the pleasure of using North Star Geography in our homeschool, using it to fulfill high school history credit. North Star Geography earned my high school sophomore one credit for high school history, but beyond that we had so much fun with the projects and creating … [Read more...] about World Geography with North Star Geography

Keeping a Nature Journal – A Review

Keeping a Nature Journal - A Review Do you and your children like to keep nature journals throughout the year? We have enjoyed them for many years in our homeschool and I think I will continue to journal from nature well in to my retirement years. I'd love to share a great resource that we have used in our homeschool over the years and that all the children have learned from to hone their … [Read more...] about Keeping a Nature Journal – A Review

Hack the SAT – My Review

When my daughter was a junior, we took time to plan and study for the SAT (and the ACT). Note - You don't have to do both. In fact, we made test prep a course, which counted towards her credits for homeschool graduation.  Studying for the SAT was one of the most important things that we did for her college prep. What to study for the SAT is one of the most frequently asked questions that I get. … [Read more...] about Hack the SAT – My Review

Math Card Games from RightStart Math

Daily math lessons elicit groans from many children - my own daughter included. One way that I helped overcome the daily drudgery of math was by including math games whenever possible. RightStart's Math Card Games Kit is our favorite resource for math fun. RightStart Math Games If you're looking for ways to add some fun to your daily math lessons, the Math Card Games Kit from RightStart Math … [Read more...] about Math Card Games from RightStart Math

Economics for Everybody is a DVD-based high school course that can be used alone for 1/2 credit and with recommended resources for a full credit.

Economics for Everybody

Is the study of economics in your four-year high school plan?  It should be! Our families, our businesses and our world run on economic principles.  Or maybe I should say they run well (or don't run well) depending on how we handle economic principles. Understanding basic economics is so important that every high school student should receive at least 1/2 credit instruction - if not more. … [Read more...] about Economics for Everybody

Our Favorite Resources for Homeschool Encouragement

A decision to homeschool your children is not something easy to make for most parents in the world. Homeschooling families are still minorities compared to the families with children who go to school. Therefore, there are a lot of challenges met by most homeschooling families. Here are some of the challenges for homeschooling parents: Not every family is surrounded by people who support the … [Read more...] about Our Favorite Resources for Homeschool Encouragement
