Marie’s Words :: Vocabulary for High School

This summer while preparing for our BIG step into homeschooling high school, I came across a set of vocabulary flashcards that seemed interesting and helpful - Marie's Words.  Purchased without even looking up a review (unusual for me!), I'm so glad we got these little cards. Both my high schooler and I are pleased with them! Marie's Words is a set of 550 cards, only 2.5" x 3.5", created to … [Read more...] about Marie’s Words :: Vocabulary for High School

Dino O’Dell Outer Space CD Review

I had the pleasure of reviewing Dino O'Dell and the T-rex All-Stars new CD "Outer Space" and let me tell you IT IS FUN! My four-year-old LOVED it! He kept asking when we were going to meet Dino! There are 12 songs on the CD with the majority being around 3-1/2 minutes long. The tunes are catchy and the words are full of things to learn (for the most part). Some of what you will hear are: Polka, … [Read more...] about Dino O’Dell Outer Space CD Review

Teaching Textbooks Review

My oldest son is in 4th grade this year. Math has always been the dreaded subject in our house. He is a very bright boy, but when you hand him a worksheet with a ton of problems on it, he immediately tunes it out. We have tried several math programs over the last few years and with each one came more discouragement. We were both beginning to get very frustrated. After searching high and low, … [Read more...] about Teaching Textbooks Review

Hearts and Trees Magazine – Volume 2 Review

I’m delighted to get the chance to share our experience with the Hearts & Trees Digital Magazines. We purchased both editions, but I’m going to detail what we loved about Hearts and Trees Volume 2. Amanda’s online magazine is designed to help homeschooling families with art, handicrafts, and nature study. Targeting ages 6-12, those on the younger end will need some assistance while the older … [Read more...] about Hearts and Trees Magazine – Volume 2 Review

Building Language: Latin Stems and Roman Architecture

I have heard for so long that using anything by Michael Clay Thompson for language arts instruction is a WISE decision. We are heavily classical in our homeschool, and this fueled our decision to investigate these materials.  This year we decided to try Building Language.  It has been a solid addition to not only our language arts curriculum, but also has reinforced our history … [Read more...] about Building Language: Latin Stems and Roman Architecture

Seeking True Values by Pathway Publishers

Over the years, we have used a variety of programs for reading comprehension. By far, my favorite has been the Pathway Publisher’s reading series. We began with their book, Busy Times, for grade two. It helped so much with my daughter’s reading comprehension that we continued with the series. Then, a few years later, she asked to do the series again, and we ordered the book/workbook set, Seeking … [Read more...] about Seeking True Values by Pathway Publishers

Math Splash iPad App Grade 5

We were offered a free code in exchange for a review of the Math Splash App at the 5th grade level. Always looking for ways to add fun to our math lessons I was happy to accept the offer. We’ve played with the app a fair bit to get a good feel of how it works and the abilities that it has. Even still, I’m pretty sure we’ve only scratched the surface as this little app packs quite the punch in … [Read more...] about Math Splash iPad App Grade 5
