I have been using Teaching Textbooks in my homeschool for over 15 years. When we started all the learning material was on CD! Here at The Curriculum Choice we have a collection of Teaching Textbooks reviews written throughout the years. Today I’m going to share my insights, as well as our full collection of reviews!
The Complete Guide to Using Teaching Textbooks in Your Homeschool
As they are on version 4.0, let’s begin with a quick overview of Teaching Textbooks throughout the years.
When we first started using Teaching Textbooks the entire program was delivered in the form of a set of CDs for each level. Then they created an online version while still offering the CDs.
Now, the content is the same (with a few tweaks and enhancements) but you don’t have discs, or Flash Plug-Ins, and you aren’t tied to a computer browser. Instead they have created an App version, this means Teaching Textbooks 4.0 works with EVERYTHING! {Windows, MAC, Chromebook, iPhone/iPad, and Android phones and tablets} Your kids can seamlessly work on it at home on their computers, on the go on their iPad or phone, and anywhere else you find yourselves!

Frequently Asked Questions About Using Teaching Textbooks
Is it rigorous enough? Or complete enough to use on it’s own?
One of the main concerns I hear when I talk about using Teaching Textbooks for homeschool math is that it isn’t rigorous or complete enough. This is so not the case!
Upon completion of Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry, my daughter tested better on college math placement/entrance exams than her friends attending local public schools in our area. Teaching Textbooks works! And not only that it made a subject that my daughter dreaded, bearable!
More Questions and Concerns Answered by Teaching Textbooks themselves
A few years back I had the opportunity to work directly with Teaching Textbooks. Not only was this a big thrill for me because I LOVE TEACHING TEXTBOOKS, but because I have also had the opportunity to ask them directly about some of the concerns I have seen expressed. Many thanks to Greg Sabouri, the co-owner of Teaching Textbooks, for taking the time to answer some of these concerns.

Using Teaching Textbooks with Large Families
Teaching Textbooks Family Plan and Why You Will Love it Too!
“If you are like me you are always looking to see if there is a family plan for anything. Because with a largish family, the family plan is usually the best and most frugal option. This is true for our membership to the local history center. It actually saved us more money to purchase the family membership for a year – than to purchase individual tickets for one visit. When it comes to homeschool math, the Teaching Textbooks Family Plan is not only the frugal option but it offers many more benefits as well. Let me point how Teaching Textbooks blesses big families, BIG time.” ~ Tricia
Homeschool High School Math with Teaching Textbooks
Homeschool High School Math with Teaching Textbooks – “One of the biggest concerns I hear about homeschooling high school relates to how the parent will be able to teach all the high school subjects proficiently. I mean most of us graduated many years ago and if you haven’t been using it, you probably lost most of it! The good news is that there are programs like Teaching Textbooks to help you homeschool high school with ease!” ~ Heidi
Online Homeschool Math with Teaching Textbooks
Online Homeschool Math with Teaching Textbooks 3.0 – “Throughout our 16 years of homeschooling, I’ve run into all kinds of curriculum decisions. There are many, many options! I could usually identify which style or approach might work for our family. Many curriculum choices proved ones we loved and have used over and over again. And then there is MATH.
Some homeschool Moms find it simple to choose and implement math options for their kiddos, which is fantastic! I am not one of those homeschool Moms.
So when Teaching Textbooks offered opportunity to explore their online math curriculum at no cost to us, I decided to move forward.
I honestly felt a bit skeptical about an online option for math. But as you’ll see…the choice was a good fit!” ~ Daniele

Peace and Progress with Teaching Textbooks – “We have many friends who happily use Math-U-See, and we thought about it ourselves. But we had also heard good things about Teaching Textbooks. Teaching Textbook Reviews Based on CD Version
Teaching Textbooks Review – “My oldest son is in 4th grade this year. Math has always been the dreaded subject in our house. He is a very bright boy, but when you hand him a worksheet with a ton of problems on it, he immediately tunes it out. We have tried several math programs over the last few years and with each one came more discouragement. We were both beginning to get very frustrated. After searching high and low, Teaching Textbooks was introduced to my family.” ~ Heather C
Teaching Textbooks Review – “For the past few years we haven’t used a math curriculum of any sort. Yes, you read that right. For several years we’d been “free flying” as I call it, learning math through games, hands on applications, & stories. It wasn’t that what we were doing wasn’t working, but rather that I wanted to be sure all the gaps I might have were filled. I opted to go with Teaching Textbooks after trying out the free samples online & administering their placement tests.” ~ Kendra
Teaching Textbooks Math Can Be Your Friend Too! – “Math is the one subject that can make my children cry in my house! To tell the truth it is the subject that I least enjoy teaching. When one of my sons started having trouble in math I started shopping around for a new math program. I was looking for a program that I can stick with all the way through high school. My son was using a great math program but I was finding it was adding too many new concepts too soon which caused much frustration with many of his lessons. In addition, my son was not retaining all the new concepts he was learning. After much consideration I switched my son to Teaching Textbooks for sixth grade. I can say with much delight that math has become our friend for the first time in our home.” ~ Korey
