Teaching Tapestry of Grace to Young Children

Tapestry of Grace is an award winning program that has repeatedly gained a name for itself among the top three homeschooling curricula in History, Unit Studies, Classical Approach, and other categories (see TOS EE awards).  It is a solid Classical Christian curriculum that covers a wide range of subjects, but the question I hear often is, “Is it right for my lower grammar student?” These are some … [Read more...] about Teaching Tapestry of Grace to Young Children

The Easy Spanish-Charlotte Mason Style Learning

This past year we finished up The Easy Spanish or El Espanol Facil! Level I. I found the link through the recommendation of a friend and after watching the introductory video explaining how the program fit a Charlotte Mason style of learning, we decided to investigate the book further. The approach is multi-faceted with listening, narrating aloud, and then writing in Spanish. It is also … [Read more...] about The Easy Spanish-Charlotte Mason Style Learning

The R Road to Biblical Wisdom

This is one of my new favorite books in regards to Biblical reasoning with your children. It is not a Bible program, it is an instructional book on how to attain Biblical wisdom in every area of life. We all know we should instill wisdom in our children but exactly how do we do that day to day? Freedom & Simplicity R Road to Biblical Wisdom: A "How to" Guide to Biblical Learning in Home … [Read more...] about The R Road to Biblical Wisdom

Primary Language Lessons

I'd like to start off with a little background before I give this review because I think that understanding the circumstances can be helpful to another mom with a similar situation. So, here I was homeschooling my two oldest boys and getting ready to begin some sort of formal studies with my third son. I was using Shurley Grammar for my older two and knew that I could not teach three levels of … [Read more...] about Primary Language Lessons

Character Building for Families

Character Building For Families   Here is a typical scenario in my house: One of my sons decides he wants to make "shooting sounds" with his mouth while he is drawing his civil war scene. My youngest daughter who is also at the table drawing gets annoyed with her brother and starts to tell him he needs to stop making that noise. Ahh, now my son has realized he can now tease his sister with this … [Read more...] about Character Building for Families

Sons of Norway

Years ago, after writing a paper for a college  history class about Norwegian Americans, I became familiar with a fraternal organization called Sons of Norway.  I joined and though I wasn’t an active member, I enjoyed reading the Viking magazine that arrived in my mailbox each month and I dreamed of someday traveling to my ancestral homeland. As a parent, I want the best for my children. … [Read more...] about Sons of Norway

A Guide to American Christian Education

It's the all-in-one book for all things BPA. If you only bought one book, I would recommend  A Guide to American Christian Education by Mr. James Rose. It details everything you need to know, from the foundations to how to 4-R to lesson planning. He also included a section for home educators with quotes from families in the trenches and answers questions specific to our situation. He goes … [Read more...] about A Guide to American Christian Education

Rod & Staff English

Sometimes it seems like curricula create confusion. Brightly colored texts, songs, jingles, computer programs, and educational games can all be useful learning tools, but perhaps we think that learning always has to be fun and exciting.  Do all the extras really help, or could they actually be a detriment? Simple, systematic, and effective. These are all words that describe Rod & Staff's … [Read more...] about Rod & Staff English

Creativity & Nature Study

Shortly after I started homeschooling, I came across a wonderful activity that we now incorporate into our curriculum regularly.  With the popularity of new technological gadgets, many people are familiar (to varying degrees) with Geocaching.  Fewer, however, are familiar with Letterboxing.       Letterboxing is an intriguing pastime that combines navigational skills and rubber stamp artistry … [Read more...] about Creativity & Nature Study

The Mighty Works of God: Liberty and Justice for All

Mrs. Ruth Smith is well known in Biblical Principle Approach circles as a mentor and Master Teacher of the Rudiments of America's Christian History (among many other topics). She saw a need for a Providential history text and thankfully she wrote it. There are to be 7 volumes in all, an this is the third. (The fourth is slated for release later this year or early next.) This volume is written … [Read more...] about The Mighty Works of God: Liberty and Justice for All

Classical Kids CD’s

What can be better for learning about composers than listening to a wonderful living story about the composer's life with his music intertwined in the story?  My children and I have SO enjoyed composer study when we've been able to add a Classical Kids CD to the mix. The Children's Group from Canada has been producing classical music products for children for around 15 years - and they're very … [Read more...] about Classical Kids CD’s
