My favorite subject to relearn with my children is history. Most of the time I find myself thinking I must have been absent the day {or the week!} we covered a particular topic. The reality is, I rarely missed school. We most likely just weren’t able to delve deeply into most topics in a classroom with 30+ kids and a curriculum mandated by the state. Reason #763 I love homeschooling, we have the flexibility to concentrate on the subjects and topics that interest us.
For instance, the year we did Paths of Exploration, we were fascinated by the Lewis & Clark Expedition. We read anything and everything we could on the subject. This year we are using Tapestry of Grace curriculum, but I appreciate having some of the resources from Heritage History to use as a supplement.
I’m intrigued by the idea of creating a Geography Big Book for use over and over again in our homeschool. It really looks fantastic!
I love this cute song for memorizing the 50 States
Heather @ Blog, She Wrote has a great series called Geography Quest. This particular link features some ideas for talking about the country of Brazil.

World Geography for High School-Harmony Art Mom’s Plans to Download: “The best part about the plans that we have for learning about the modern world is that it is flexible and roomy enough to veer off the plan but still be on track. So many of the resources don’t feel like schoolwork….Most of the follow-up activities that are going to be offered are totally self-directed and could be considered various forms of narration: written narration, oral narration, commonplace books, map completion.”
How to Set Up a History Notebook Using a Timeline and Notebook Pages: ‘I am busy getting ready for my high school age son’s study of Modern History. We sat and discussed how he would like to document his reading and research and his choice was notebooking and a timeline.”
Cindy:
Creative Geography Lessons: “One of the end-of-the-year writing projects I gave the kids was to research any country of interest around the world and create a report and presentation.”
Slavery and the Civil War: “One of my favorite history units ever!”
Hands On Geography for Multiple Ages – What we found out is that when you actually make a model of something you have to pay attention to its qualities. The details. The boundaries and borders. These hands on geography activities also help the child see the big picture. To think of the Creator. Sometimes, a geography project helps children to fix a portion of the history timeline in their minds.
15 Minutes of Geography Supplement a Week – That 15 minutes to half an hour a week is a grounding and a jumping off place. A Biblical worldview.
What I’ve Learned Homeschooling With Tapestry of Grace – One of those wonderful benefits of homeschooling is continuing to learn right alongside your children. History, a love of art, composers, nature study. I just love continuing education. For many years now, Tapestry of Grace has truly woven together all the learning in our home.
