About Tapestry of Grace
Tapestry of Grace is designed to help parents provide a Christian, classical, Charlotte Mason education. The history of the world is Tapestry‘s organizational theme. Its goal is to help students see the patterns of God’s personality and works.
Tapestry of Grace (TOG) is a unit study style curriculum that covers most of the major subject areas for students in grades K-12.
TOG covers the same general topics for all students simultaneously. Then the instruction and activities are divided into four levels of learning reflecting the classical Trivium (with the grammar stage divided into two sections).
Four Levels of Learning
- lower grammar (grades K-3)
- upper grammar (grades 3-6)
- dialectic (grades 6-9)
- rhetoric (grades 9-12)
Subject areas covered include:
- history
- writing
- literature
- fine arts
- geography
- church history including missions, and Bible
You will need to find other resources for phonics, English grammar, math, foreign languages, and science.

Review of Tapestry of Grace by Kristen – A wonderful description how the weekly plans are presented. Describes each section: the threads, reading assignments, weekly overview, writing assignments, student activity pages, teacher notes and glance into next week.
Teaching Tapestry of Grace to Young Children by Brenda – “Tapestry of Grace is organized in a manner that allows the instructor and student to determine how the week will run. This will involve some time on the part of the parent to make a plan for what you desire to accomplish. By allowing for complete flexibility, though, there are no set expectations to complete all the material before progressing through the program.”
Sonlight vs. Tapestry of Grace: Our Experience by Barb – Stemming from Barb’s personal experiences with both curricula, Barb gives you a look at both programs from a homeschooling mom’s perspective
Tapestry of Grace Primer Review by Tricia – “Tapestry of Grace authors Mike and Jessica Somerville are parents of young children as well. “Together, they created Tapestry Primer to help Jessica develop her teaching skills as they sought to introduce their first-grader and preschooler to the joys of learning…It (Tapestry Primer) offers a simple, conversational, hands-on and game-oriented approach to history. It introduces young parents and children to the joys of story-driven learning, integrated humanities studies, and full family education while taking them through the entire sweep of human history in (the parents’ choice of) either one or two school years.”
Tapestry of Grace Though the Years by Tricia – This reflection on this curriculum includes the successes, the (sometimes) challenges of getting started, the flexibility, the rich learning and the needs met.
Tapestry of Grace – An Update by Tricia – “More than five years ago I shared with you that Tapestry of Grace was the homeschooling fit for our family. When we started with Tapestry of Grace, my eldest child was in fourth grade. She has now graduated from our homeschool. I now have the perspective of the years of rich education Tapestry has afforded us. So here is a Tapestry of Grace update.”
Tapestry of Grace Review by Tricia – “I am fresh from representing Tapestry in a booth at my local homeschool convention. Three days worth of talking Tapestry with fellow homeschoolers! So, what I am sharing here is not only my family’s years of experience with Tapestry but also what I learned were the biggest questions for newcomers to this curriculum.”
Teaching with Tapestry of Grace by Brenda “Author Marcia herself, successfully homeschooled her six children (now grown) and led co-op classes using Tapestry in her church community. Since then, literally thousands of families have discovered the joyful, effective discipleship that Tapestry has to offer them as they homeschool their children to the glory of God.”
