Our family had the privilege of using Home Art Studio’s Grade 5 DVD art program. This program’s content is meant for one year of art instruction given by Lindsey Volin via DVD. We received the Grade 5 program as a resource in exchange for this review.
Who is the Art Program for?
- students in grades K-5
- busy families with an interest in hands on instruction which can be viewed any time
- families with multiple aged students
- parents who want to supplement art programs
- traditionally schooled students who want some summer fun
- homeschooling families who want quality art instruction in an affordable format
We worked together on many projects as a family and I let my daughter try out other projects on her own. Both settings were successful. It’s been an enjoyable product! Are you ready for some fun ocean themed projects?
The first project is a value scale made by using pencil on a strip of paper to make different intensities of the pencil markings on the paper. All four of my children tried this at grades 9, 7, 5, and 2.
Benefits of Using Home Art Studio:
- The projects work well across varying ages of students.
- Works well as group instruction
- Easy to implement as an independent project for students
- Cost is affordable at $24.99 per DVD
- Supply list is readily available
- Easy, clear instructions with camera angles which make it easy to follow along
Another group project was the paper collage. The kids made a great clownfish with its anemone in a semi-abstract way. It’s always fun to see how the kids’ art will turn out differently.
Some Projects & Media Used in Grade 5:
- paper collage
- printing
- tin foil sculpting
- pencil drawing
- watercolor painting
- weaving
Infused with the directions on the art projects, are facts about the types of art and medium as Ms. Volin introduces a new concept.
There is a preview of the Grade 5 DVD which will give you an idea of how the pace and instructional style. In addition, you can find Home Art Studio on facebook. Ms. Volin shares fun projects via the facebook page so be sure to check it out.
All in all, we consider this one a success!

I am most looking forward to learning about the various artists alongside my children, that Ms. Volin teaches about.
I think we would love all of them!!! LOL but I love how warm and welcoming Ms. Volin is!!
I subscribed via wordpress (couldn’t get the email feature to work on the feedburner one, and I didn’t have the option to add it to Pulse. 🙂
I like that skills are built incrementally.
We love, love, LOVE Home Art Studio! What I look forward to is seeing the pure joy on my children’s faces when we do art!
I’ve been needing an art program to use with my children. This sounds wonderful!
I am most excited that my kids will be learning art from a real art teacher and I don’t even need to be in the room.
This series looks so fun!
My child loves art and drawing, and I am clueless. I would love to have this and see all the wonderful creations she makes. I know her eyes would light up!
Very excited to have this resource! We are studying marine biology next year so the year of ocean art will tie in beautifully.
I love that the program is self paced. I like the idea that my child is introduced to a lesson a week that builds on the previous lesson. It is not just random projects strung together.
Looks amazing!!
I would love to win this for my kiddos!
That looks like an awesome Art program. Whether I win or not I will definately like to add it to our curriculum next year!
I think this looks like a great program. I like that I don’t need to have any art background (because I don’t!)

Looks like a FANTASTIC product! Thanks for a great review for the rest of us!
We would love to have a curriculum this time! We have been going on without one for the past 3 years and now since the kids are finally entering 1st grade and preschool it’s time to follow something specific! I love the variety the program offers and the DVDs are great!
This DVD set really excites me. My daughter is going to 1st grade and tells us she is an inspiring artist, yet art is not my strong suit. It would be great to have the whole set to let me grow and learn.
My six-year-old daughter watched a sample lesson and is now begging for this program!

This would be an awesome addition to an home education program! I love art and I’m always looking for new art projects for my girls.
I love how user friendly this program seems to be, and my kids and would have fun learning art together! I have an 11 year old who is intimidated by art but would really connect with this format and these “fun”, non-perfectionistic style projects.
How cool! My daughters especially love art. What blessing this would be! 🙂
I think the third grade DVD looks great–principles & elements of art, learning how to analyze famous works of art.
I am really looking forward to starting this next year! We have done some of her free art projects from her website. She is really good about teaching the history behind her art.
I love Home Art Studio. I love how easy it is to implement and how great the projects turn out
I have been looking at these all year! I think what i look forward to most is having my children learn the techniques I cannot teach them…at a level appropriate for each of them
I would appreciate having someone who actually understands art teach it to my children.
I’m most excited about just popping in the DVD, sitting down, and actually doing art WITH my kids! Looks like a lot of fun!
This is a great give-away! We definitely have struggled to add art to our curriculum. This would be a great addition for our family!

I am going to be homeschooling my children and this would be a great way to help them keep their love of drawing with more guidance then mommy can give them.
The fairy tale stuff looks fun!
would love to have these videos as an addition to our homeschooling. i feel so un-artsy; it would be great to have someone who enjoys art actually teaching my daughter how to do some of these different techniques.
I need all the help I can get – reading art instruction from books is SO hard, I am interested in the dvd teaching – my son is SO artistic and I am SO not.
Looks like a great program, definitely an area I need help in.
I WANT TO TRY THIS PROGRAM! <3
My daughter struggles with art. She does not want to do any drawing and when I ask her to do art it turns into a struggle so I would love to have this to help her.
This program looks great! I would love to add it to our homeschool. My kids love art and I love that this is something hands on, that they can do together or separately.
My children all love doing artwork–this would certainly be a wonderful thing to win!
Even if I don’t win this, this would be a valuable program to include in their curriculum–I look forward to seeing my children learn to use different mediums and about art from around the world.
I love a program that I can do with all of my boys at the same time!
I am so excited about this program. The DVD guidance seems like an excellent way to incorporate art into our curriculum. While I am creative, I am not an art teacher, and to have Ms. Volin’s expertise seems wonderful!
My son loves to draw and paint. I am not an artistic person and this would be fabulous! Even if we don’t win, I’m planning on adding this to the list of possibilities for next year!
I love the variety of techniques presented! I would love a chance to learn along with my kids!
Our four year old loves art and it would be great for him to have a multi year curriculum as he grows older!
so fun!
We have been looking at this program for a couple of weeks. It is great to see another great review! :o)
I am needing someone to tell me what to do. I am most looking forward to the planning and project picking being done for me and that I can do them along side of my son!
I really need to incorporate art into our homeschool. It’s been sorely lacking. This would help.

This looks like a great program for my girls!
I am looking forward to my kids proudly enjoying their own beautiful artwork on display in our home!
I would look most forward to being able to do the projects right along with my son. He doesn’t like to do things alone so we do a lot of “do it with me” type things. Art is great therapy for him and it would be great fun to do it together!
Having a person to help me teach the girls art. Instead of me not knowing I can preview it and then learn with them.
I think art is so important but so easily forgotten so I am super excited about this curriculum.
Being able to work with my daughter with the Kindergarten program
This looks like a great program. I’m sure I would learn quite a bit myself in participating with my daughter. We would be starting with the Kindergarten classes and working all the way through.
That looks like an awesome program! Too bad I missed it. 😉
Adrienne – you missed the giveaway but you can still find it at the website linked above. Wonderful resource and very worth a purchase!
