Bruchko

Wow.  We just finished reading Bruchko, the story of missionary Bruce Olsen, and I can truly say it’s an amazing book! So many times, missionary stories can be rather dry and difficult to trudge through.  Not so with Bruchko – we were enthralled from beginning to end!  The excitement of the wonderfully woven true tale kept us on our toes….

A few non-BPA resources

I have taken to buying books–lots of books. I buy literature from a local used bookstore and lots of resource books from mega-bookstores and my local used homeschool store. I like to buy books that I can refer to over and over for ideas and inspiration. I need to jazz up my lessons but I’m not always sure how to…

An Unexpected Reassuring Surprise

Guest posting today is Loni.   You can find her blogging about daily life, her homeschool adventure, and unexpected surprises at Hearts-In-Training.   It came out of nowhere. Hitting me like a sweet warm summer breeze, instantly calming my spirit, slowly I felt the tension fade from my soul. Seriously, it was exactly what I needed at that moment. Isn’t it funny…

Your Story Hour CD’s

Our family LOVES books on tape.  I greatly enjoy reading wonderful literature aloud to my children, but quite honestly, I don’t have as much time to read aloud as I used to.  Our library has a huge assortment of classic literature on tape and CD.  Several years ago, we started checking out a new book every couple of  weeks to…

Beautiful Grace

I remember my first year as a homeschool mama. We had just pulled my daughter out of public school. She was going into the 4th grade, only because she had been through 3rd grade twice, and she could not do 3rd grade again. My middle son was going to start kindergarten. The summer before we started homeschooling everything changed….

Fortunately for You – literature units

Have you ever wondered if your child was understanding and comprehending what they were reading? My oldest son was a late bloomer when it came to reading and I wanted to make sure he understood the books that I chose for him. I came across a wonderful website called Fortunately For You Books. Fortunately For You Books carries a variety…

Teaching Tapestry of Grace to Young Children

Tapestry of Grace is an award winning program that has repeatedly gained a name for itself among the top three homeschooling curricula in History, Unit Studies, Classical Approach, and other categories (see TOS EE awards).  It is a solid Classical Christian curriculum that covers a wide range of subjects, but the question I hear often is, “Is it right for…

The Easy Spanish-Charlotte Mason Style Learning

This past year we finished up The Easy Spanish or El Espanol Facil! Level I. I found the link through the recommendation of a friend and after watching the introductory video explaining how the program fit a Charlotte Mason style of learning, we decided to investigate the book further. The approach is multi-faceted with listening, narrating aloud, and then writing…

The R Road to Biblical Wisdom

This is one of my new favorite books in regards to Biblical reasoning with your children. It is not a Bible program, it is an instructional book on how to attain Biblical wisdom in every area of life. We all know we should instill wisdom in our children but exactly how do we do that day to day? Freedom &…

Primary Language Lessons

I’d like to start off with a little background before I give this review because I think that understanding the circumstances can be helpful to another mom with a similar situation. So, here I was homeschooling my two oldest boys and getting ready to begin some sort of formal studies with my third son. I was using Shurley Grammar for my older two…
