I was given The Homeschool Mom’s Prayer Journal to look over, use, and review. I was drawn to the journal on its name alone, because I, like many other Mums, wanted to cover our homeschool in prayer. Let’s face it, picking our curriculum, setting up schedules, helping our children meet goals, and face challenges isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s way too easy to become overwhelmed and forget the bigger picture if we let it. Rebecca Brandt has poured her own tips and techniques for Bible study into this simple journal. She has offered it up to share with others. She calls this technique P.R.A.Y. and to quote Rebecca herself:
P-Pray: Pray for God to open your heart to the message He has for you.
R-Read/wRite: Please read all of the chapter that the scripture is included in. This will help you gain proper perspective of the text. Then,wRite down the scripture (I have included the scripture in each section and at the end of the journal. I have also included pages without scripture so you can use your journaling pages for other verses)
A– Ask: Ask God for complete clarity regarding the scripture. Write down the message of the scripture.
Y-You: Now, write down how you are going to apply about this scripture to YOUR life.
The journal covers six different topics for prayer! These topics include things like curriculum, schedules and depression. There are scripture references {with the scripture in the back if you need it}. There is also a journal for reflection on your requests, verses that speak to you and how you’re going to apply what you’re read/learned to your life.
If you’re familiar with the lovely Inductive Bible Study Technique you’ll feel right at home with Rebecca’s PRAY method. One of the biggest blessings of this journal is that Rebecca offers it for only $2.99. The journal is printable for yourself, with suggestions of how to use it with your children as well. This means you can use it over and over again. I all most feel as though the price is a steal considering the unending use any mother can obtain from this simplistic, yet gratifying, journal. I feel I really must quote, yet again Rebecca, because her words really spoke to my heart when I read them in the journal:
“This journal is not meant to be an answer to your prayers, but a way to remind you to pray. There will be days when you don’t think prayer is necessary because things are going well. Then, there will be days when things seem so horrible, that even bending to pray is too difficult. But, it is necessary regardless of what is happening (or not happening) in your life.”
Her words truly sum up exactly how I feel about her journal. It’s not about demanding answers from God, but simply reminding us that our little home schools are truly worthy of prayer!
