WonderMaps from Bright Ideas Press is a must have product for map-loving families. It is a purchase that you make one time and then you can use it the entire length of your homeschooling years. You can print maps for each of your children with the click of a button. The WonderMaps product comes as a CD or an immediate download.
WonderMaps may be just what you are looking for to bump up your history, literature, and geography courses to the next level. The WonderMaps program will work with any method of homeschooling and with any curricula you currently use with all ages of children.
What makes WonderMaps so “wonder”ful?
- You pick how detailed you want your map to be for your particular study by adding and subtracting layers of detail.
- Using the WonderMaps program you can decide whether to print your map out in color, show city, river, state, and country boundaries, or detailed topographical information.
- Each feature is a layer you choose before printing.
- There are also historical maps and thematic maps that we used extensively in our homeschooling.
- We found them to be a perfect fit for our Tapestry of Grace plans and our notebooking style of record keeping.
WonderMaps is Great for High School Too!
My high school age son used WonderMaps for his history and geography study. I think that he enjoyed this so much because he was in charge of picking and creating many of the maps he used in his notebooks. He still likes to draw his own maps but with WonderMaps he can quickly print and use a map without a lot of trouble.
Create Custom Geography Memorization Plans
I tried something new this year and created a geography notebook by printing many of the USA maps without labels. I numbered the pages according to the weeks of school and each week Mr. B could quickly turn to the week’s map and label it. I made multiple copies of each regional USA map from WonderMaps and Mr. B used them to memorize the fifty states and their capitols.
Teacher’s Guide with Other Resources
One important part of our high school geography course was to learn about the Five Themes of Geography. WonderMaps comes with a complete reference and activity guide to apply these important themes in your history and geography courses. WonderMaps makes it super easy!
How about 50 Bright Ideas for Using Outline Maps? It’s included!
There are no downsides to this product…at least none that our family has found in using it over the past two years. The price is $49.95 but if you consider that you will use this resource for the rest of your homeschooling years…it is a great investment. If your children are in the elementary years, you are going to have a long time to benefit from WonderMaps. This product is on my “best of” homeschooling products list…just wish I had some younger children to use it with from the beginning.

We use Story of the world. They use maps, but sometimes my map LOVING almost 5 year old wishes there were more and more DETAILED maps. 🙂 Wondermaps would be great for my older 2 as well, and my youngest in a few years. Even if we switch curriculum for history I believe wondermaps will be a GREAT resource.

Everytime my daughter hears about a new location, she wants to know where it is located. She is also intrigued with historical maps and comparing country borders over time. We find most of our maps online since our atlas and globe don’t provide enough details. It would be nice to have a reference item that is more detailed to help my daughter learn about her world. Thank you for the review of this product!

Wondermaps would be a wonderful addition to our homeschool. Yesterday, I asked my ten year old what he would like to learn about next year and without hesitation he said geography. He loves computers and I’m sure he would really enjoying creating his own maps.

Before we moved a few years ago, we had large maps of the world and the US up on the wall in our dining area that we looked at and talked about all the time. They don’t fit in our current eating area, so they are on the walls of our schoolroom, but we don’t look at them as much. This resource could help my girls have the geography knowledge their older brother gained through that opportunity.
stella says
This would go perfectly with Story of the World that we’ll start using in a few months!
